Meet the Maker
I'm Steve Purnell, lifelong acoustic guitar player, aspiring luthier, and proud member of the Bucks Luthiers. I bring together a passion for tone, a deep respect for wood, and a MA in Engineering from Cambridge University to build guitars that balance art, craft, and acoustics. I’m on a mission to build 100 beautiful guitars and make each one a little bit better than the last.

What’s in a name?
Lutra is the Latin name for the otter—a wild, curious, and playful creature found along British riverbanks. That spirit runs through every guitar I make: lively, expressive instruments with character and individuality. No two are exactly alike, but all are built to respond, inspire, and be enjoyed.
